X-Ray Recycling & Shredding
Whether you're a healthcare provider, dentist, chiropractor, or simply an individual clearing out clutter, properly disposing of X- is essential —not just for protecting privacy, but also for contributing to a greener Waterloo Region.
At Eco-Tech we offer safe, secure, and environmentally responsible X-ray disposal options, including both recycling and shredding. Here’s everything you need to know before dropping off your old films.
🔍 Why Recycle or Shred X-Rays?
X-ray films contain sensitive private information and silver, a valuable but potentially harmful material if not properly disposed of. Throwing them in the trash is not only unsafe but also environmentally damaging.
Shredding ensures complete destruction of private films—perfect for medical or legal compliance.
Recycling allows for recovery of materials like silver while keeping harmful waste out of landfills.
💼 Our X-Ray Shredding & Recycling Services
We offer two convenient options for X-ray disposal:
✅ Recycling
$1.00 per pound
$10.00 minimum charge
Films are processed and materials recovered in an eco-friendly way
✅ Shredding (Unsupervised)
$2.00 per pound
$50.00 minimum charge
Includes a Certificate of Destruction for your records
🔒 Ideal for medical offices, dental clinics, or anyone needing secure disposal.
🧾 Important Note on Sleeved X-Rays
If your X-rays are in individual sleeves or envelopes, please be aware:
A $0.40 per pound processing surcharge applies as films in sleeves or envelops require additional time and labor to process
$20.00 minimum charge for sleeved X-rays
👉 To save on costs, we strongly recommend removing sleeves before drop-off.
Responsible Disposal Matters
Choosing to recycle or shred your old X-rays isn’t just about convenience—it's about protecting privacy and the environment. With millions of X-rays discarded each year, proper disposal helps reduce landfill waste and allows for the recovery of valuable materials.
